SR 20 traffic to alternate for 19 days around the clock beginning Aug. 17 south of Anacortes
ANACORTES – State Route 20 will be reduced to a single lane for 19 days around the clock beginning Monday morning, Aug. 17, near Campbell Lake Road. The work is part of an intersection improvement project.
An automated traffic signal will alternate traffic through the three-way intersection near milepost 46 from 6 a.m. Monday, Aug. 17, to 6 p.m. Friday, Sept. 4. People traveling through the area should expect delays, especially during busier travel times.
Contractor crews working for the Washington State Department of Transportation will begin building up and grading the intersection so that a roundabout can be built in 2027. Crews also will rechannel nearby Tibbles Creek.
After the 19-day lane reduction, SR 20 will return to its previous configuration with an eastbound SR 20 left-turn lane to Campbell Lake Road and an acceleration lane. Both were removed leading up to the 19-day closure to create room for work. SR 20 also has a reduced speed limit of 40 mph near the intersection.
