SR 9 reduced to one lane for 42 days beginning Monday, Aug. 3, north of Sedro-Woolley

Temporary signal will alternate traffic through one-lane bypass

SEDRO-WOOLLEY – State Route 9 will be reduced to a single-lane bypass with alternating traffic for 42 days around the clock beginning Monday, Aug. 3, north of Sedro-Woolley.

During the continuous lane reduction, contractor crews working for the Washington State Department of Transportation will install an 18-foot box culvert beneath SR 9 to remove a barrier blocking fish migration along a tributary to Hansen Creek.

What to expect
Beginning at 7 a.m. Monday, Aug. 3, a temporary traffic signal will alternate traffic along a bypass road around the clock for 42 days south of Kalloch Road (milepost 59). Most of the construction of the new fish passage structure will be done during this continuous closure, scheduled to end at 7 a.m. Monday, Sept. 14.

People traveling through the area during these lane reductions should expect delays and allow emergency vehicles to pass through the work zone when they approach.

Second fish passage
A second, 20-foot box culvert is being installed beneath SR 9 east of Mount Vernon to correct a barrier to native fish along a tributary to Nookachamps Creek, just south of Mount Vernon Big Lake Road (milepost 49).

The new structure will be installed during a seven-day full closure of SR 9 tentatively scheduled to begin Wednesday, Aug. 12. Northbound and southbound traffic can follow a signed detour using SR 534, Interstate 5 and SR 538/College Way during that closure.
