Roadwork planned for eastbound SR 16 after Tacoma Narrows Bridge

TACOMA – Travelers who use State Route 16 from Gig Harbor to Tacoma can expect daytime lane and shoulder closures.

From 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Friday, July 17, the right lane of SR 16 after the Tacoma Narrows Bridge will close.

The Jackson Avenue exit will remain open.

During the closure, Washington State Department of Transportation crews will repair asphalt, sweep and cutback brush.

WSDOT needs help from travelers
During the work travelers are encouraged to:

  • Add extra travel time to help prevent delays.
  • Travel before or after scheduled work hours.

Whenever near work zones please:

  • Slow down – drive the posted speeds, they're there for everyone’s safety.
  • Be kind – workers are out there helping to keep everyone safe and improve the roadways.
  • Pay attention – both to workers directing traffic and to fellow travelers.
  • Stay calm – expect delays, leave early or take alternate routes if possible.

Asphalt repairs require warm, dry weather and may be rescheduled if it rains.

Travelers are encouraged to sign up for email updates about work on state roads in Pierce County. Real-time travel information is available from the WSDOT app and statewide travel map.
