Port of Tacoma Road Phase 2A Project: Overnight northbound I-5 and Port of Tacoma Road closures July 11–12 and July 18-19

FIFE – People traveling northbound on Interstate 5 and the Port of Tacoma Road bridge over Interstate 5 should plan for significant overnight traffic impacts and allow extra travel time beginning Saturday evening, July 11 and July 18.

Northbound I-5 closure

Beginning at 7 p.m. on Saturday, July 11, and Saturday, July 18:

  • Northbound I-5 lanes at Port of Tacoma Road will begin closing, starting with the far-left HOV lane and progressing sequentially from left to right.
  • All northbound I-5 lanes are scheduled to be fully closed by 11 p.m.
  • Beginning at 8 a.m. on Sunday, July 12, and Sunday, July 19, lanes will start reopening, progressing sequentially, starting with the far-right lane.
  • All northbound I-5 lanes are expected to reopen by 12 p.m. on Sunday.

Port of Tacoma Road bridge and Exit 136B closure

From 11 p.m. Saturday, July 11 & 18, to 8 a.m. Sunday, July 12 & 19:

  • The Port of Tacoma Road bridge over I-5 will be closed in both the northbound and southbound directions.
  • Northbound I-5 Exit 136B to Port of Tacoma Road will be closed.
  • Port of Tacoma Road Exit 136A will remain open throughout the closure.
  • Travelers will be detoured via 20th Street East and Pacific Highway East.

Travelers are encouraged to plan ahead, follow posted detour signs, and allow extra travel time during the overnight closure. If weather conditions delay work, closures may be rescheduled.
