TRAVEL ADVISORY June 16, 2026
Expect delays: Emergent daytime road work on SR 302 near Purdy Bridge Wednesday, June 17
PURDY – Travelers who use State Route 302 in Purdy will want to plan additional travel time.
From 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Wednesday, June 17, the road will reduce to one lane of travel approaching the Purdy Bridge.
The lane reduction creates a work zone for Washington State Department of Transportation crews to repair the asphalt at the bridge’s east approach.
What to expect:
- One-way alternating traffic east of Purdy Bridge approaching Tyee Drive Northwest.
- Traffic stops of up to 30 minutes in each direction.
WSDOT recognizes that travel will be challenging on SR 302 between the Key Peninsula and Gig Harbor during repairs. The emergent work is being performed after the morning commute and as soon as materials are available.
WSDOT needs help from travelers:
- Add at least 30 minutes of extra travel time during the work.
- Have a full tank of gas or fully charged vehicle.
- Travel before or after scheduled hours to avoid delays.
About the bridge The Purdy Bridge was originally built in 1936. The span was rebuilt in 1966. On average approximately 24,000 vehicles use the bridge each day.
Whenever near work zones please:
- Slow down – drive the posted speeds, they're there for everyone’s safety.
- Be kind – Workers are out there helping to keep everyone safe and improve the roadways.
- Pay attention – both to workers directing traffic and to fellow travelers.
- Stay calm – expect delays, leave early or take alternate routes if possible.
Travelers are encouraged to sign up for email updates to get the latest information about road work in Pierce County. Real-time travel information is available from the WSDOT app and statewide travel map.
