Southbound I-405 full closure in Kirkland for fish passage restoration, May 29-June 1
KIRKLAND – Travelers should plan for a full closure of southbound Interstate 405 in Kirkland from May 29-June 1. Crews working for the Washington State Department of Transportation will make progress on fish passage restoration, as part of the I-405/Northeast 85th Street Interchange and Inline BRT Station Project. Crews will cut across a section of the freeway to create a tunnel for the new fish passage and then cover the roadway again with paving and striping.
Closure details
Crews will close southbound I-405 in Kirkland from 11 p.m. Friday, May 29 to 4 a.m. Monday, June 1. Lane reductions will start as early as 8 p.m. on Friday. Signed detours will be in place.
The following ramps will also close:
- Northeast 116th on-ramp to southbound I-405
- Northeast 85th Street on-ramp to southbound I-405
Closure schedule:
- 11 p.m. Friday, May 29 to 6 a.m. Saturday, May 30: Southbound I-405 will close from Northeast 124th Street to North 70th Place. The Northeast 124th Street on-ramp to southbound I-405 will also be closed.
- 6 a.m. Saturday, May 30 to 4 a.m. Monday, June 1: Southbound I-405 will close from the I-405/Northeast 85th Street interchange to North 70th Place. Travelers continuing on southbound I-405 can detour east or west from the Northeast 85th Street off-ramp by following the signed detour routes.
“Know before you go," travel during off-peak hours or, if possible, delay discretionary travel to help minimize backups. Travelers are advised of additional closures on I-5, SR 520, and I-90/SR 18 that will impact travel across the Puget Sound.
Work is dependent on dry weather and may be rescheduled due to rain. Schedule updates will be available on the project webpage, WSDOT’s Travel Center map, the WSDOT mobile app and by signing up for King County email updates.
