Day-long northbound I-5 weekend lane reduction starts Saturday morning, May 2, in Bellingham

BELLINGHAM – A day-long closure of the right lane of northbound Interstate 5 at Samish Way (milepost 252) will begin Saturday morning, May 2, for maintenance in Bellingham. The northbound I-5 off-ramp to Lakeway Drive (milepost 253) also will close Saturday, May 2.

Washington State Department of Transportation maintenance crews will replace concrete panels during the lane reduction and ramp closure.

All work needs conditions that are dry enough, and the scheduled reopening time may change due to variables in the concrete curing process.

What to expect

  • The right lane of northbound I-5 will close at 6 a.m. Saturday, May 2, until about 8 a.m. Sunday, May 3, at Samish Way (milepost 252). Please note, the reopening time could change due to the curing time of the concrete.
  • The northbound I-5 off-ramp to Lakeway Drive (exit 253) will close from 6 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, May 2.

People traveling through the area during these hours should expect delays and use alternate routes while the Lakeway Drive off-ramp is closed.

People can receive real-time roadway information via the WSDOT mobile app or the real-time travel map.
