WSDOT Travel Advisory: Westbound I-90 to close Friday night, May 1, between Mercer Island and Seattle for maintenance

Westbound I-90 to close Friday night, May 1, between Mercer Island and Seattle for maintenance

SEATTLE – Westbound Interstate 90 from Mercer Island to Seattle will close between Island Crest Way (milepost 7) and Rainier Avenue South (milepost 3) beginning at 10 p.m. Friday, May 1, until 6 a.m. Saturday, May 2, for tunnel maintenance. Lanes will begin closing at 8:30 p.m. People should seek alternate routes.

In addition to the mainline closure, several ramps will close at 9:30 p.m. Friday and reopen by 6:30 a.m. Saturday, including:  

  • The 76th Avenue Southeast/North Mercer Way on-ramp to westbound I-90.
  • The Island Crest Way on-ramp to westbound I-90.
  • The West Mercer Way on-ramp to westbound I-90.  

Washington State Department of Transportation tunnel maintenance crews will perform regularly scheduled maintenance in the Mount Baker and Mercer Island Lid tunnels during the closure. The work includes fire suppression and emergency systems testing, drain cleaning, lighting and road sweeping.
