Morning and afternoon weekday closures at the SR 104 Hood Canal Bridge for inspections

SHINE – Daytime travelers who use the State Route 104 Hood Canal Bridge between Jefferson and Kitsap counties should plan ahead.

Starting Monday, April 13, Washington State Department of Transportation crews will conduct a series of inspections at the bridge.

The work requires two closures each weekday.

Morning and afternoon bridge closures:

  • 10 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. Monday through Friday, April 13-17.
  • 10 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. Monday through Friday, April 20-24.

Each closure will last up to 60 minutes. Every effort will be made to keep closures as short as possible.

There may be additional bridge closures unrelated to inspections. Crews will combine closures for inspections and marine traffic as schedules allow.

Travelers can get information about the Hood Canal Bridge via Hoodcanalbridge.com, WSDOT email alerts and on the statewide travel map. Travelers who download the WSDOT app also have access to push notifications for bridge closures.

What is happening
The WSDOT Bridge Preservation Office is conducting inspections at the SR 104 Hood Canal Bridge. During the inspections engineers will assess the bridge’s mechanical and electrical systems. All WSDOT floating bridges undergo similar inspections.

The inspections require crews to open the draw spans of the bridge. The work is performed during the day so engineers can see in tight spaces to get detailed observations of bridge components and operations.
