This map shows the entire SR 525 project area.
Travelers will see crews preparing as early as Wednesday, April 1, to grind and repave approximately two miles of State Route 525 in both directions from the Interstate 405 interchange to just south of 148th Street Southwest, as well as eight on-and off-ramps.
Closures
The first extended closure will be Alderwood Mall Parkway to the southbound SR 525 on-ramp from 7:30 p.m. Sunday, April 5, to 3 p.m. Thursday, April 9.
Detour maps will be available next week.
Some work requires dry weather and may need to be rescheduled.
Why repave now?
The asphalt on this stretch of SR 525 has exceeded its anticipated 15-year lifespan and replacing it will provide a smoother drive and extend the life of the highway.
Overnight construction resumes Sunday night, March 29, at the SR 104 intersection with 35th Avenue Northeast in Lake Forest Park as crews work to finalize the SR 104 Lyon Creek fish passage project.
Starting March 29, our contractor will close roughly 400 feet of both directions of 35th Avenue Northeast south of SR 104 for sewer work. This work will happen from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. nightly Sunday nights through Friday mornings each week for up to four weeks. The schedule could go longer if weather does not cooperate.
Signed detours will guide people around the work zone during these nightly closures. Flaggers will maintain access for people who live within the section of 35th Avenue Northeast that will close nightly.
Nightly lane closures also are likely in the coming weeks on SR 104 and Northeast 185th Street. Crews will use the nightly closures to prepare for sewer installation later this spring. We will share more details on sewer installation as we get closer to construction, although we expect much of that work to happen during the day.
We are planning for roughly four months of construction to go on this project, including sewer work, paving, lane striping, site cleanup and final landscaping.
We have nearly completed a fish barrier removal project on US 2 at Sexton Creek just south of Three Lakes Road near Snohomish.
Our contractor removed two 5-foot steel culverts that stretched more than 180 feet under US 2 and replaced them with a fish-passable structure. The new structure has the potential to open habitat for Chinook, coho, pink and chum salmon, steelhead, sea-run cutthroat, bull trout and resident trout.
Final closure
Now that this fish passage project is finishing up, there’s just one thing left to do: permanently re-stripe US 2. There will be a single lane closure with alternating traffic on US 2, south of Three Lakes Road near Snohomish from 9:30 p.m. on Wednesday, April 2, to 5:30 a.m. on Thursday, April 3.
This work is weather dependent, so it may need to be rescheduled. We’re used to that here in the Pacific Northwest.
