In this update:
Heads up! East Roanoke Street will close between Boylston Avenue East and Harvard Avenue East beginning at 11 p.m. on Friday, March 13, until 5 a.m. Monday, March 16. Crews will use this closure to install a temporary traffic signal and complete drilling near the East Roanoke Street overpass over I-5.
Crews will also close the westbound SR 520 off-ramp to East Roanoke Street. The westbound SR 520 off-ramp to I-5 and eastbound SR 520 are not affected by this work and will remain open.
What to expect:
- Noise from trucks and equipment.
- A uniformed police officer will be on-site to guide traffic and pedestrians around the work zone.
- We will maintain access to homes and businesses near the area.
If you have questions about these closures or the Portage Bay Project, please call our 24-hour hotline at 206-319-4520, or email us at SR520bridge@wsdot.wa.gov.
Last month, we shared our updated plans to install acoustifences (noise-reducing fences) in the Roanoke Park neighborhood. Our supplier is experiencing delays delivering some of the remaining materials. We now expect crews to install the fence posts and panels in mid-March, once the materials arrive. We will share another update if the schedule changes. Thank you for your patience —we know these improvements are important to the community.
Once this acoustifence is complete, we plan to install an additional acoustifence next to the fire station across from Roanoke Park. Before installing the fence, we will compact and excavate these areas to prepare the site. We expect to finish installing this acoustifence by the end of March, although the schedule is subject to change.
As a reminder, we monitor noise and vibration in real time around the project area. If you feel like you’re experiencing excessive noise or vibration from this work, please call our 24-hour hotline as soon as possible at 206-319-4520.

We also shared last month that crews would begin major utility work along Boyer Avenue East between East Roanoke Street and Everett Avenue East. As part of that work, we restricted parking on the east side of the street within our work zone.
Starting Monday, March 9, we will implement 24-hour parking restrictions on the west side of the street (within the work zone) so crews can store materials and equipment while they continue to work on the east side.
What to expect
- Parking will be restricted 24/7 on both sides of Boyer Avenue East near our work zone.
- Crews will continue to work on the east side for a few weeks before switching to the west side of the street. The parking restrictions will remain on both sides so crews have space to stage equipment and materials.
- We expect parking restrictions in this area to continue through April.
We understand that construction can be disruptive, and we appreciate your patience as we continue working in a confined area. If you have questions or concerns about this utility work, please call our 24-hour hotline at 206-319-4520, or email us at SR520bridge@wsdot.wa.gov.
