WSDOT Travel Advisory: Eastbound I-90 to close Friday night, March 6, between Seattle and Mercer Island

Eastbound I-90 to close Friday night, March 6, between Seattle and Mercer Island

SEATTLE – Eastbound Interstate 90 from Seattle to Mercer Island will close between Rainier Avenue South (milepost 3) and 76th Avenue Southeast (milepost 7) beginning at 10 p.m. Friday, March 6, until 6 a.m. Saturday, March 7, for tunnel maintenance. People should seek alternate routes.

In addition to the bridge closure, several ramps will close at 9:30 p.m. Friday and reopen by 6:30 a.m. Saturday, including:  

  • The southbound I-5 on-ramp to eastbound I-90. 
  • The northbound I-5 on-ramp to eastbound I-90.
  • The northbound and southbound Rainier Avenue South on-ramps to eastbound I-90.  

Washington State Department of Transportation tunnel maintenance crews will perform regularly scheduled maintenance in the Mount Baker and Mercer Island Lid tunnels during the closure. The work includes fire suppression and emergency systems testing, drain cleaning, lighting and road sweeping.
