Upcoming closures on East Roanoke Street near Roanoke Park

East Roanoke Street south sidewalk closes Nov. 12-25

Starting at noon Wednesday, Nov. 12, through 5 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 25, the south sidewalk on East Roanoke Street between Harvard Avenue East and 10th Avenue East will be closed for utility work. The north sidewalk will remain open. People walking or rolling should use the marked crosswalks and follow posted detour signs.

Crews will use this closure to install conduit for future relocation of the King County Metro trolley wires from above the roadway to underground. For more information, check out our utility work informational packet

Weekend closure: East Roanoke Street near Roanoke Park closed Nov. 15 and 16

Crews will also close East Roanoke Street to all traffic between Harvard Avenue East and 10th Avenue East from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday, Nov. 15 and 16. Access to Broadway Avenue East and the nearby alley from East Roanoke Street will also be closed.

We heard you: New temporary traffic signs in the neighborhood

We’re working with SDOT to add “Local Access Only” signs to help reduce cut-through traffic on neighborhood streets and encourage travelers to use the signed detour routes along Harvard Avenue East, Fuhrman Avenue East and Boyer Avenue East. This work will affect Metro Route 49. For transit reroute information, contact King County Metro directly.

These closures will affect Metro Route 49. For transit reroute information, contact King County Metro directly. If you have any other questions, call our 24-hour hotline at 206-319-4520 or email sr520bridge@wsdot.wa.gov.

Former Montlake Market and gas station property update

As many of you know, the 2019-2021 transportation budget directed WSDOT to sell the former Montlake Market and 76 gas station property once the Montlake Project is complete. Now that all major Montlake Project elements are open to the public, state lawmakers are working to make the property available for affordable homeownership. We will know more details about the process and schedule following the end of the legislative session in March 2026. We will continue to keep you updated once we have more information.

On-land piledriving near Portage Bayshore Condominiums begins soon

Crews will begin on-land impact piledriving near the Portage Bayshore Condominiums as soon as Thursday, Nov. 13.

Crews will install approximately 10 piles between the building and the existing Portage Bay Bridge to build a section of the temporary work trestle. This work is expected to last about a month, with some exceptions around upcoming holidays.

What to expect:

  • On-land vibratory and impact piledriving close to nearby homes
  • Work hours: 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays (excluding holidays)
