Southbound I-405 closure in Renton and northbound I-405 lane reductions in Kirkland, Oct. 31 – Nov. 3
KIRKLAND/RENTON – People traveling on the Eastside should plan for a full closure of southbound Interstate 405 in Renton and overnight lane reductions on northbound I-405 in Kirkland from Oct. 31 – Nov. 3.
Crews will be excavating and installing drainage crossings, paving, and completing a traffic switch in Renton, as part of the I-405/Renton to Bellevue Widening and Express Toll Lanes Project. Crews will also shift traffic to create a new work zone in Kirkland, as part of the I-405/Brickyard to SR 527 Improvement Project.
Southbound I-405 closure details
Southbound I-405 in Renton will be closed from North Southport Drive/Sunset Boulevard Northeast to State Route 167 from 11:59 p.m. Friday, Oct. 31 to 4 a.m. Monday, Nov. 3. A signed detour route will be in place.
The following ramps will be closed:
- SR 169/SR 900 on-ramp to southbound I-405
- Southbound I-405 off-ramp to SR 515/Talbot Road South (Exit 3)
- Southbound I-405 off-ramp to southbound SR 167/Auburn/Rainier Avenue South (Exit 2)
- Southbound I-405 direct connector ramp to SR 167
Northbound I-405 overnight lane reductions details
Up to three lanes of northbound I-405 in Kirkland will be reduced overnight from Northeast 124th Street to Northeast 160th Street from:
- 11 p.m. to 8 a.m., beginning Friday, Oct. 31 to Sunday, Nov. 2
- 8 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 2 to 5 a.m. Monday, Nov. 3
The following ramps will be closed:
- Northeast 128th Street Express Toll Lane off-ramp
- Northeast 160th Street off-ramp (Exit 22)
- Northbound I-405 off-ramp to SR 522 (Exit 23)
People are advised of additional regional closures:
- Southbound Interstate 5 lane reductions across the Ship Canal Bridge from 10 p.m. Friday, Oct. 31 to 5 a.m. Monday, Nov. 3, as part of the Revive I-5: Ship Canal Bridge Preservation Project.
- Westbound I-90 will be closed from Mercer Island to Seattle at 10 p.m. Friday, Oct. 31 until 6 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 1.
“Know before you go," travel during off-peak hours or, if possible, delay discretionary travel to help minimize backups.
Work is dependent on good weather and may be rescheduled. Schedule updates will be available on the project webpages, WSDOT’s Travel Center map, the WSDOT mobile app and by signing up for King County email updates.
