Westbound I-90 reduced to a single lane Sept. 12-14 in Issaquah for around-the-clock bridge repairs
ISSAQUAH – Westbound Interstate 90 will be reduced to a single lane 24 hours a day Sept. 12-14 in Issaquah to repair two bridges. This is the first in a series of weekend lane closures along the freeway. The work was originally scheduled Sept. 5-7, but was rescheduled due to forecast weather.
From 8 p.m. Friday, Sept. 12, to 8 a.m. Sunday, Sept. 14, contractor crews working for the Washington State Department of Transportation will close up to the left three lanes of westbound I-90 from east of the East Sunset Way off-ramp to west of the Front Street North on-ramp (mileposts 18 to 16), leaving one open lane for through traffic.
The East Sunset Way on-ramp to westbound I-90 will close at the same time. A signed detour will guide people to the 270th Avenue Southeast/Southeast High Point Way on-ramp to westbound I-90.
The right half of the bridges will receive repairs during another lane reduction Sept. 19-21. Two more weekend westbound I-90 lane reductions are expected later this fall. Details on those lane reductions will be released when they are finalized.
People traveling through the area during the around-the-clock lane reductions should expect significant delays during busy travel times and consider alternate routes. The speed limit will be reduced to 45 mph to create a safer work zone.
The work needs dry weather and may need to be rescheduled.
Bridge repairs begin Sept. 12-14 During the Sept. 12-14 lane reduction, crews will replace aging pavement and waterproof membranes and repair bridge expansion joints on the left half of two bridges in the Issaquah area.
Crews are scheduled to reduce westbound I-90 to a single lane for two more weekends to make similar repairs on two other bridges in Issaquah. The work will extend the useful life of the bridges, which were originally built in 1970 and 1971.
The bridge work is part of a project already making pavement repairs along westbound I-90 in Issaquah.
