Both directions SR 20 Deception Pass Bridge to alternate traffic to repair historic guardrail

SR 20 Deception Pass Bridge Historic Guardrail

State Route 20 traffic will alternate over the Deception Pass Bridge (milepost 42) from 6 a.m. to noon, daily, Saturday and Sunday, June 7-8, for guardrail repairs.

Our maintenance crews will repair and replace damaged logs and rocks along the historic bollard and log guardrail along the 90-year-old bridge in Deception Pass State Park.

The damaged log rail system is a result of collisions, fallen trees and vandalism. Please plan ahead for delays in the area and give our crews plenty of patience and room while they work.

I-5 Lake Creek fish passage project makes progress

I-5 Lake Creek temporary bypass road building
Temp. Pile Install

South of Bellingham, this week contractor crews continued installing the temporary piles and building the temporary bypass roadway at the Lake Creek fish passage site. Soon, new signage for the temporary median bypass will be placed and covered in preparation of the upcoming traffic switch at the end of June.

From 8 p.m. to 5 a.m., nightly, Sunday nights to Thursdays, crews will close the left lane of southbound Interstate 5 near N. Lake Samish Drive (milepost 246) for I-5 Friday, Lake and Chuckanut fish passage construction.

Construction, maintenance and special events

Road work ahead

We often have special events and roadwork taking place in the Northend, including construction projects, maintenance and repairs. We always try to minimize any effects to travel, but sometimes it is necessary to close a lane to do the work or create a safe work zone for our crews.

While we aren't doing a lot of roadwork this week, our crews will still be out monitoring and keeping the roads safe. If you spot them, slow down and give them space to work! A huge thanks to our crews for all their hard work.
