Repairs on US 101 Simpson Avenue Bridge in Hoquiam completed ahead of schedule

HOQUIAM – There’s good news to share for travelers who use the US 101 Simpson Avenue Bridge between Aberdeen and Hoquiam.

Washington State Department of Transportation bridge crews completed repairs to the 97-year-old bridge on Wednesday, May 21, a day ahead of schedule.

WSDOT would like to thank travelers for their patience while crews made repairs that extend the life of the bridge.

About the work
A previous routine inspection discovered cracks in the aging steel beams underneath the driving surface of the bridge. Crews completed welding cracks and reinforcing the beams with steel plates in three locations during the work.

Repairs required daylight hours so crews could see in tight spaces beneath the bridge.
