SR 18 to close May 15-21 to build southern end of new interchange near Snoqualmie
SNOQUALMIE – Both directions of State Route 18 will be closed around the clock for five days beginning Thursday night, May 15, under the Interstate 90 bridges.
All people traveling through the I-90/SR 18 interchange from 9 p.m. Thursday, May 15, to 5 a.m. Wednesday, May 21, should expect delays and add time to their travel plans.
This five-day closure will help position the I-90/SR 18 Interchange Improvements project to complete construction of a diverging diamond interchange this summer south of Snoqualmie. The work requires dry weather and may be rescheduled.
Closure details During the closure:
- No traffic will be allowed along either direction of SR 18 under the I-90 bridges.
- All eastbound SR 18 traffic must take the on-ramp to eastbound I-90.
- All westbound SR 18 (southbound Snoqualmie Parkway) traffic must take the on-ramp to westbound I-90.
- No left turns will be permitted onto SR 18 at the bottom of the eastbound or westbound I-90 off-ramps.
People can detour around the closure using eastbound and westbound I-90 and loop around at:
- The Southeast North Bend Way (exit 27) interchange to the east.
- The Preston-Fall City (exit 22) or High Point (exit 20) interchanges to the west.
Westbound I-90 freight traffic should either use Preston Fall City (exit 22) or High Point Way (exit 20) to loop back on eastbound I-90 to westbound SR 18. Freight traffic also can continue west on I-90 and use southbound I-405. Freight traffic should not use Issaquah city streets or Issaquah-Hobart Road, which are not suitable for semi-trucks.
During the closure Contractor crews working for Washington State Department of Transportation will install new drainage and electrical crossings, pave the new roadway and build concrete islands that will form the southern portion of the new I-90/SR 18 diverging diamond interchange.
Work also includes building a left turn pocket for traffic turning from westbound SR 18 onto Southeast 104th Street and a signalized U-turn south of I-90 that will allow eastbound SR 18 traffic to head westbound toward Auburn. Both will be operational when SR 18 reopens Wednesday, May 21.
