Crews working to make multiple repairs to driving surface of I-5
GRAND MOUND – Daytime travelers can expect heavy congestion on Interstate 5 in southern Thurston County.
From 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Washington State Department of Transportation crews will close two lanes along portions of I-5.
Southbound I-5:
- Monday May 12 and Tuesday May 13 in Maytown.
- Monday May 19 and Tuesday May 20 near the Lewis County line.
Northbound I-5:
- Monday June 2 and Tuesday June 3 at the Scatter Creek Rest Area.
- Monday June 9 and Tuesday June 10 north of the Scatter Creek Rest Area.
During each workday a two-mile section of I-5 will reduce to a single lane.
WSDOT needs help from travelers:
- Consider rescheduling discretionary trips.
- Travel early in the morning or late afternoon.
- If you must travel during the work hours, add an hour of extra time
- Top off your tank or have a fully charged vehicle.
What’s happening The lane closures allow crews to fill gaps in the surface of the roadway and fix potholes. Crews need warm and dry conditions to perform the repairs. Once complete, the repairs will help reduce the rate of deterioration on the roadway.
Whenever possible, crews work overnight to help reduce disruptions to travelers.
All work is weather dependent and could be rescheduled.
Real-time travel information is available from the WSDOT app and WSDOT Travel Center Map. Travelers are encouraged to sign up for email updates about work on state roads in Thurston County.
