SR 18 reduced to a single lane near I-90 interchange overnight Saturday, May 3, near Snoqualmie
SNOQUALMIE – State Route 18 will be reduced to a single lane with flaggers, police officers and a pilot vehicle alternating eastbound and westbound traffic from 9 p.m. Saturday, May 3, to 5 a.m. Sunday, May 4, near the Interstate 90 interchange.
The lane reduction will stretch from beneath the I-90 bridges, south of the city of Snoqualmie, to approximately Southeast 104th Street.
People driving through the area should slow down, follow instructions from flaggers and police officers and expect delays.
During the lane reduction, contractor crews working for the Washington State Department of Transportation will move barricades and restripe the roadway to shift both directions of SR 18 traffic to the west under the I-90 bridges to just north of Southeast 104th Street. This will create a safe work area for crews to continue work on a diverging diamond interchange.
The work is part of the I-90/SR 18 Interchange Improvements project, which in addition to building the new interchange is:
- Widening more than 2 miles of SR 18 to two lanes in each direction from I-90 to Deep Creek.
- Building new four-lane bridges at Lake Creek and Deep Creek that will allow fish and wildlife to pass beneath SR 18.
- Constructing a new two-lane SR 18 bridge over Raging River next to the existing two-lane bridge.
The new diverging diamond interchange is scheduled to open this summer, with SR 18 widening finishing later this year.
