Weekend-long closure of SR 18 on-ramp to westbound I-90 begins Friday, April 25, near Snoqualmie
SNOQUALMIE – A weekend-long closure of the State Route 18/Snoqualmie Parkway on-ramps to westbound Interstate 90 will begin Friday night, April 25, for paving at the I-90/SR 18 interchange near the city of Snoqualmie.
People traveling through the area from 9 p.m. Friday, April 25, to 5 a.m. Monday, April 28, should follow a signed detour using eastbound I-90 to Winery Road/Southeast North Bend Way (exit 27) and loop around to westbound I-90. Travelers should add travel time to their plans and follow instructions from work crews and construction signs in the area.
During the closure, contractor crews working for the Washington State Department of Transportation will relocate barrier, pave new roadway and stripe a new alignment along SR 18/Snoqualmie Parkway. The work is weather dependent and may be rescheduled.
When the ramps reopen Monday morning, all lanes of SR 18/Snoqualmie Parkway north of I-90 will bend to the west and return straight underneath the I-90 bridges. This is the next step in building the northern end of a diverging diamond interchange.
This work is part of the I-90/SR 18 Interchange Improvements project, which in addition to building the new interchange is:
- Widening more than two miles of SR 18 to two lanes in each direction from I-90 to Deep Creek.
- Building new four-lane bridges at Lake Creek and Deep Creek that will allow fish and wildlife to pass beneath SR 18.
- Constructing a new two-lane SR 18 bridge over Raging River next to the existing two-lane bridge.
The new diverging diamond interchange is scheduled to open this summer, with SR 18 widening expected later this year.
