Road remains closed about 5 miles south of Larrabee State Park; local businesses, trails and state park remain open
Work began earlier this week to stabilize and clear a significant rockslide that sent thousands of cubic yards of debris across both directions of State Route 11/Chuckanut Drive, closing the road on April 22 just south of milepost 10 near Blanchard Road.
Contractor crews working for the Washington State Department of Transportation will work six days a week on this emergency project to clear the highway, stabilize the slope, assess the road's condition and make any needed repairs.
SR 11 remains closed in both directions between the Oyster Dome trail head and Chuckanut Manor. This closure is expected to continue through June.
May is National Bike Month, and there’s no better time to grab your bike, pump up those tires, and join thousands of others across Washington in celebrating all things cycling!
Cycling IS good for your health, mentally and physically; great for our environment and helps reduce traffic congestion; saves you money on fuel and car maintenance; and fun! Bicycle commuting can help you avoid some of the hassles of traffic congestion and get a little exercise during your transportation time. For some tips on commuting on a bike:
- Wear a bicycle helmet every time you ride. See bike helmet requirements.
- Lights and reflectors are a must. A white headlight and a red rear reflector are required by Washington law for night riding.
- Bicycle racks carry items such as clothes, briefcases, books, coffee, etc.
- A basic tool kit and a tire pump will allow you to make roadside repairs.
- Riding in wet weather: a rain jacket and fenders help for a rainy commute.
We often have special events and roadwork taking place in the Northend, including construction projects, maintenance and repairs. We always try to minimize any effects to travel, but sometimes it is necessary to close a lane to do the work or create a safe work zone for our crews.
While we aren't doing a lot of roadwork this week, our crews will still be out monitoring and keeping the roads safe. If you spot them, slow down and give them space to work! A huge thanks to our crews for all their hard work.
