Expect additional daytime SR 104 Hood Canal Bridge closures for in-depth bridge inspections

SHINE – Daytime travelers who use the State Route 104 Hood Canal Bridge between Jefferson and Kitsap counties are encouraged to plan additional travel time.

Beginning Monday, April 7, crews working for the Washington State Department of Transportation will conduct a series of in-depth bridge inspections.

Inspection schedule

  • 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday, April 7-11
  • 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday, April 14-18

The inspections require multiple intermittent draw span closures to traffic.

The bridge will close to traffic between 15 minutes and one hour each time. The closures will occur at unscheduled times throughout the day.

Every effort will be made to keep closures as short as possible. Crews will combine inspection-related draw span closures to traffic with marine draw span closures to traffic when possible.

Travelers can get information about the Hood Canal Bridge via Hoodcanalbridge.com, WSDOT email alerts, the WSDOT app, and on the statewide travel map.

What is happening?
The SR 104 Hood Canal Bridge will undergo required Blue-Ribbon inspections. The inspections include an overall assessment of the bridge’s mechanical and electrical systems. All WSDOT floating bridges undergo similar inspections.

The inspections require daylight to see inside tight spaces and get detailed observations on bridge components and operations.
