Weekend southbound I-5 lane reduction and off-ramp to Boylston Avenue East closure begins Friday, Jan. 31, in Seattle
SEATTLE – The right lane of southbound Interstate 5 and the off-ramp to Boylston Avenue East will close for the weekend beginning Friday night, Jan. 31, to install noise wall panels just south of the Ship Canal Bridge in Seattle.
Although work may finish early, people heading into downtown Seattle over the weekend should add extra travel time to their plans.
From 10 p.m. Friday, Jan. 31, to as late as 5 a.m. Monday, Feb. 3, people should expect the right lane of I-5 to close from Franklin Avenue East to East Edgar Street, near milepost 168. The Boylston Avenue East off-ramp also will close; people should follow a signed detour using southbound I-5 to the Mercer Street exit and back north to Boylston Avenue East.
Contractor crews working for the Washington State Department of Transportation will use a crane to set panels, some of which are 36 feet tall, along the southern end of a new noise wall. Once finished, the new noise wall will reduce sound some people living in the area hear from the I-5 express lanes.
