Westbound I-90 overnight closure scheduled Friday, Jan. 24, from Mercer Island to Seattle

SEATTLE – All westbound Interstate 90 lanes from Mercer Island to Seattle will close from 10 p.m. Friday, Jan. 24, to 6 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 25, for tunnel maintenance. People should seek alternate routes.

During the closure: 

  • Westbound I-90 lanes will begin to close at 8:30 p.m. Friday, Jan. 24. 
  • The westbound I-90 on-ramps from 76th Avenue Southeast, Island Crest HOV and West Mercer Way in Mercer Island will close at 9 p.m. Friday, Jan. 24.
  • All ramps will reopen by 6 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 25.

Washington State Department of Transportation tunnel maintenance crews will perform maintenance in the Mount Baker and Mercer Island Lid tunnels during the nighttime closure.

The work includes fire suppression testing, emergency system and lighting maintenance, drain cleaning and road sweeping.
