In this update:
Heads up! Crews will close several streets in Montlake tonight for striping, landscaping and utility work. The closures are listed below and will start at 10 p.m. tonight, Dec. 10, until 5 a.m. tomorrow morning.
Here's what's closed:
- Montlake Boulevard between East Hamlin Street and East Louisa Street
- Lake Washington Boulevard between Montlake Boulevard and East Foster Island Road
- All associated SR 520 on- and off-ramps to and from Montlake and Lake Washington Boulevards
Note: Drivers heading east on SR 520 from I-5 will need to pay a toll to cross the bridge since there’s no exit before the toll when the Montlake Boulevard ramp is closed.
A signed detour for pedestrians and bicyclists will be in place through the work area. The SR 520 Trail will be open. Local access on Lake Washington Boulevard will be maintained.
This work is weather dependent. For the latest updates, visit our Construction Corner webpage and follow us on X/Twitter.
As the Montlake Project wraps up, we’re excited to invite you to celebrate the grand opening of the new bike and pedestrian bridge over SR 520. Be among the first to bike (or walk or roll) across the bridge at 11:30 a.m. this Saturday, Dec. 14, and enjoy festivities starting at 11 a.m.!
Additional event details below and on our event webpage:
-
Schedule: The event will begin at 11:00 a.m. At 11:30 a.m., we’ll gather at the north end of the bridge for welcoming remarks followed by the inaugural first ride/walk.
-
Location: We will begin the event on the north side of the bridge, closer to the University of Washington. You will not be able to access the south side until after we open the bridge. The site map outlines potential routes to reach the start line and other event facilities. Please note street parking in the area is limited; we encourage participants to use transit and/or bike and walking paths. Check out King County Metro’s Trip Planner to map your route.
-
Tours: At 12:30 p.m., we’ll kick off guided tours of the new Montlake Lid and the Washington Park Arboretum (hosted by The Arboretum Foundation and UW Botanic Gardens).
-
Bike repairs: We want to thank Gary from Montlake Bicycle Shop for offering free bike repairs following the ride. The bike repairs will be located on the Montlake Lid, next to the starting point of lid tours.
Don’t forget to dress for the weather or bring an umbrella just in case. Bring your family, friends and furry friends too – all are welcome. We can’t wait to see you there!
