In this update:

SR 520 bridge and ramps closed across Lake Washington nightly, Dec. 2-5 (eastbound access to Montlake only)

Crews will close the SR 520 bridge and its associated on- and off-ramps across Lake Washington starting tonight, Dec. 2, through Thursday, Dec. 5. The closures will start at 9 p.m. each night and wrap up by 5 a.m. the following morning. See below for special closure limits:

  • SR 520 westbound: SR 520 fully closed across Lake Washington between 92nd Avenue Northeast in Clyde Hill and I-5 in Seattle.
  • SR 520 eastbound: SR 520 closed between Montlake Boulevard in Seattle and 92nd Avenue Northeast in Clyde Hill. Note: Travelers from I-5 heading eastbound on SR 520 will need to exit at Montlake Boulevard.

These closures are needed to continue testing the lighting and fire suppression systems under the Montlake Lid. The SR 520 Trail will stay open during these nightly closures.

Reminder: Celebrate Montlake’s new bike and pedestrian bridge on Dec. 14!

As the Montlake Project wraps up, we’re excited to invite you to celebrate the grand opening of the new bike and pedestrian bridge over SR 520. Be among the first to bike (or walk or roll) across the bridge at 11:30 a.m. on Dec. 14, and enjoy festivities starting at 11 a.m.!

Event details:

  • Date: Saturday, Dec. 14, 2024
  • Time: 11:00 a.m. (Inaugural bike/walk/roll at 11:30 a.m.)
  • Location: New bike and pedestrian bridge, just east of the Montlake Lid. Access the bridge from the SR 520 Trail, Bill Dawson Trail, or along Lake Washington Boulevard via the Montlake Lid.
  • Parking: Limited street parking—carpooling, walking/biking and taking transit is encouraged!

Rain or shine, this is an event you won’t want to miss! Join us for music, refreshments, a family-friendly coloring station and tours as we celebrate this milestone together. See you there!

Join us for our next Portage Bay Project monthly construction meeting held virtually at noon on Thursday, Dec. 12. You’ll learn about current and upcoming work, including vegetation removal, anticipated local street and trail effects, upcoming utility work and updates on the 10th Avenue East and Delmar Drive East overpasses.
