SEATTLE – Both directions of the State Route 99 tunnel in Seattle will close for scheduled inspections from 10 p.m. Friday, Oct. 11, until 6 a.m. Sunday, Oct. 13.

Southbound traffic will detour to the Harrison Street off-ramp and northbound traffic will detour to the Alaskan Way off-ramp. Additionally, the 6th Avenue and Royal Brougham Way on-ramps will close at 9 p.m.

The tunnel closure will allow the Washington State Department of Transportation to complete the six-year mandated tunnel inspection

Busy road construction weekend

The closure of the SR 99 tunnel in Seattle takes place during a busy weekend of road construction work around the Puget Sound region. Weekend closures and overnight lane reductions are also planned for Interstate 5 in Seattle and between Federal Way and Fife, SR 520 across Lake Washington, I-405 in Bothell and US 2 in Snohomish.

People traveling through the area should use alternate routes. Real-time travel information is available via the WSDOT mobile app and the real-time travel map.
