Overnight I-5 lane reductions needed Sept. 16-20 to prepare for fish passage project near Arlington

ARLINGTON – People traveling overnight on Interstate 5 north of Arlington should prepare for nightly lane reductions beginning Monday, Sept. 16.

Contractor crews working for the Washington State Department of Transportation will close lanes to prepare for the Secret Creek fish passage construction set to begin in February 2025.

Nightly I-5 lane closures
The nightly closures between State Route 532/Stanwood-Bryant Road (milepost 214) and 200th Street Northeast/King Thompson Road (milepost 207) will include:

  • From 6 p.m. Monday, Sept.16, until 6 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 17, the left two lanes of northbound I-5 will close.
  • From 6 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 17, until 6 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 18, the left two lanes of southbound I-5 will close.
  • From 6 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 18, until 6 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 19, up to two right lanes of northbound I-5 will close.
  • From 6 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 19, until Friday, Sept. 20, the right two lanes of southbound I-5 will close.

This project will replace existing fish barrier culvert crossings along I-5 and Pacific Highway at Secret Creek with three fish passable structures. The project also includes reconstruction of the creek channel through the I-5 median between two crossings.
