We want to ride our bicycles, we want to ride our bikes

Over the weekend we had multiple bike events in the Northend including: Adventure Cycling Association Pacific Coast North, San Juan Inn 2 Inn and Bike MS Deception Pass Classic

Counting on volunteers for annual bike and pedestrian tally

One of my colleagues recently wrote, "Few inventions have the staying power of the bicycle. Relatively unchanged since they took on the shape we know and love more than 100 years ago (minus some fun techy and accessible updates), their value is only becoming more apparent. From improving our health and wellbeing to reducing our reliance on fossils fuels, incorporating bikes into our lives comes with seemingly endless benefits – and they’re fun to use." This beautifully encapsulates the importance of why we need to create and maintain safe spaces on the roadway for cyclists.

Bike rides are one of the many ways that we use public roads as public space to create and celebrate community, like parades, antique car rallies, festival streets and bike events. Look out for an influx of cyclists and pedestrians as we continue to have nice weather in the Northend.

Reminder: Please slow down, move over, give yourself extra time this weekend. A bicycle is a legal vehicle, just like a car. Bicyclists have the same rights and responsibilities as drivers. Construction, maintenance and special events

Road work ahead

We often have special events and roadwork taking place in the Northend, including construction projects, maintenance and repairs. We always try to minimize any effects to travel, but sometimes it is necessary to close a lane to do the work or create a safe work zone for our crews.

While we aren't doing a lot of roadwork this week, our crews will still be out monitoring and keeping the roads safe. If you spot them, slow down and give them space to work! A huge thanks to our crews for all their hard work through the holidays.
