Prepare for another busy weekend along our highways

LUDA is in the NORTHEND at the Northwest Washington Fair.

Aug 15 Paint map

When you’re sitting in traffic, you and Ludacris might want to say: MOVE, please, GET OUT THE WAY. Traffic is an inevitability in the summer, but our Paint Map can prepare you for another busy summer construction and maintenance weekend.

You might walk, you might run or you might travel on wheels to concerts in Seattle, visit our ocean beaches, head to the Northwest Washington or Southwest Washington fairs or take a weekend trip to Portland. No matter where you go, plan on delays and leave earlier than you think you need to.

Take note of a couple of weekend-long ramp closures in Seattle (Montlake Boulevard, Southbound Interstate 5 to Mercer Street) and add more travel time for those detours. Or consider other forms of transportation, such as light rail, carpooling or Amtrak Cascades. And make sure you Know Before You Go by checking out our Travel Center map or our mobile app and social media accounts.

And please, don’t Bring the Madness with you or Act a Fool on our roads. Slow down, be patient, be kind, pay attention and make smart decisions if you’re travelling through our work zones or alongside cyclists or pedestrians.

SR 20 easy fire mudslide

We don't take your patience for granite

State Route 20 still closed due to fire activities (milepost 148 to 157) and will remain closed through the weekend after rain caused mudslides in this area. Lots of heavy equipment and crews are working in the closure zones to clear debris, mud and rocks, which will take some time as the conditions were worse that initially anticipated. (Look at how big this rock, crewmember for scale, is that we had to remove from the roadway, like woah!)

Please continue using alternative routes to head east/west, including US 2 and I-90.

Construction, maintenance and special events

Road work ahead

We often have special events and roadwork taking place in the Northend, including construction projects, maintenance and repairs. We always try to minimize any effects to travel, but sometimes it is necessary to close a lane to do the work or create a safe work zone for our crews.

While we aren't doing a lot of roadwork this week, our crews will still be out monitoring and keeping the roads safe. If you spot them, slow down and give them space to work! A huge thanks to our crews for all their hard work through the holidays.

Want more information? Visit our real time travel center, where these projects and repairs can be found on our travel map, and download our app to receive alerts directly to your smartphone.
