In this update:
Crews will fully close SR 520 in both directions between I-5 in Seattle and 92nd Avenue Northeast in Clyde Hill on the eastside from 11 p.m. Friday, Aug. 9, until 5 a.m. Monday, Aug. 12. The SR 520 Trail will stay open all weekend for anyone who wants to walk, bike or roll in the sun – including those participating in the annual Fred Hutch Obliteride event on Saturday, Aug. 10.
This weekend's closure is needed so crews can work on lighting and the fire suppression system under the Montlake Lid. Crews will also be working on the westbound off-ramp to Montlake Boulevard and landscaping.
Additionally – please note several other off-ramp closures in the area this weekend:
Off-ramp closures this weekend:
Beginning next Thursday, Aug. 15, new toll rates for the SR 520 bridge will take effect, with an average increase of 10% (rounded to the nearest nickel). Rates will vary depending on the time of day and day of the week, decreasing by 10 cents or increasing by up to 70 cents. Good To Go! customers can expect to pay between $1.35 and $4.90 on weekdays, and $1.35 and $2.95 on weekends. In addition, the new schedule will have six rate variations instead of the current eight.
Skanska, our Portage Bay Bridge and Roanoke Lid Project contractor, has recently updated the project’s Community Construction Management Plan (CCMP). The CCMP describes what neighbors can expect during construction, including the best practices Skanska will follow to minimize construction effects on neighborhood residences and historic properties.
Feedback on the CCMP due tonight, Aug. 8
The CCMP is available for public comment from now through 11:59 p.m. PST tonight, Thursday, Aug 8. Your feedback is important to us, and we encourage you to read and review the plan.
You can submit a comment about the CCMP using this form or you can email comments to sr520bridge@wsdot.wa.gov.

Upcoming construction
As a reminder, major construction on the Portage Bay Project is set to begin this fall. Crews will be driving long metal tubes (piles) into Portage Bay. The piles are needed to support a temporary work bridge from which crews will build the new, permanent bridge. Neighbors living close to Portage Bay should expect to hear noise and feel vibration. Please review our construction effects page on the online open house to learn more.
This weekend’s closure is the first of three major closures scheduled for the next three weekends:
