Overnight wildfire activity closed SR 20 North Cascades Highway between Granite Creek and Rainy Day Pass trailhead

WINTHROP – The Washington State Department of Transportation closed State Route 20/North Cascades Highway from milepost 148 at Granite Creek to milepost 158 just east of the Rainy Day Pass trailhead, approximately 45 miles west of Winthrop, beginning at 3 a.m. on Thursday, July 18, until further notice.

The road closure is necessary to support fire fighting activities and for the safety of the traveling public. During wildfire season, closures of state highways may happen quickly as fire behavior changes. Travelers should plan ahead and expect delays.

During the closure, people can use I-90 or US 2 for east-west travel across the state.

Road closure information is posted in the WSDOT real-time travel center and @wsdot_north and @wsdot_east on X/Twitter and updates will be provided as available. Wildfire information can be found by visiting the Washington State Department of Natural Resources wildfire incident information webpage
