Montlake closures this weekend, Montlake online construction meeting today, and Portage Bay Bridge open house coming up

In this update:

Reminder: Montlake Boulevard, Lake Washington Boulevard, and associated SR 520 ramps closed this weekend

There’s a major closure in Montlake this weekend. Here’s a breakdown of what’s planned to close:

  • Montlake Boulevard between East Hamlin Street and East Louisa Street
  • Lake Washington Boulevard between Montlake Boulevard and East Foster Island Road
  • All SR 520 on- and off-ramps to and from Montlake, including the westbound SR 520 off-ramp to Lake Washington Boulevard

Drivers heading east on SR 520 from I-5 will need to pay a toll to cross the bridge since there’s no exit before the toll when the Montlake Boulevard ramp is closed.

A signed detour for pedestrians and bicyclists will be in place through the work area. The SR 520 Trail will stay open this weekend.

Closures will begin at 10 p.m. on July 19, and last until 5 a.m. Monday, July 22. During this time, crews will install permanent roadway and utilities.

Heads up: SR 520 and Trail planned to close next weekend, July 26-29

Plan ahead! Crews plan to fully close SR 520 in both directions between I-5 in Seattle and 92nd Avenue Northeast in Clyde Hill on the eastside starting at 11 p.m. on Friday, July 26 until 5 a.m. Monday, July 29. The SR 520 Trail is also scheduled to close during this time.

During the closures, crews will continue to work on utilities and paving. We’ll share updates as the date gets closer or you can get the latest updates on our Construction Corner.

You’re invited! Portage Bay Bridge & Roanoke Lid Project Open House is July 25

We are excited to share some updates with you about the SR 520 Portage Bay Bridge and Roanoke Lid Project! The project’s contractor, Skanska, is gearing up for construction in late August and we want to keep you informed.

What to expect this summer:

  • Skanska will continue early construction activities – locating underground utilities, surveying, geotechnical soil sampling, etc. – throughout the summer.
  • More significant construction activities – such as construction staging and piledriving – are expected to begin in late August/early September. This work will bring more frequent noise and vibration to the area, particularly for those living nearest to Portage Bay.

All work associated with this project is expected to be completed in 2031.

Upcoming open house on July 25

Before crews break ground for major construction later this summer, WSDOT and Skanska will host an in-person open house on July 25. 

  • Date and Time: Thursday, July 25, 2024, 5 to 7 p.m.
  • Location: St. Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church, 2100 E. Boyer Ave., Seattle, WA 98112
  • Transit Access: King County Metro routes 43 and 48 serve the church area. 
  • Parking: Limited free parking is available on site. Street parking is also available.

At the open house, neighbors will be able to: 

  • Learn more about the project design and construction schedule.
  • Learn how to stay informed during construction.
  • Meet the contractor and ask questions about construction activities and effects.

Can't attend the in-person open house? No problem. An interactive online open house will be accessible from July 25 to Sept. 17. Stay tuned for more information.
