Eastbound SR 18 to close for up to eight nights starting July 8 near Maple Valley for pavement repairs

MAPLE VALLEY – Eastbound State Route 18 will close for up to eight nights beginning Monday, July 8, northeast of Maple Valley for pavement repairs. No eastbound traffic will be allowed east of Issaquah-Hobart Road or over Tiger Mountain summit during the work. People travelling in the area will not be able to access Interstate 90 from eastbound SR 18 and will need to detour using the appropriate alternate route.

Beginning Monday, July 8, eastbound SR 18 will close from 11 p.m. to 4 a.m. nightly Mondays through Thursdays. Contractor crews will grind down damaged areas of pavement along the 5-mile section of eastbound SR 18 between Issaquah-Hobart Road and Deep Creek and repair them with new asphalt. The work is weather dependent and may be rescheduled.

Detours
People heading eastbound during the nightly closures should follow one of two detours during the closures:

  • Freight: All semi-trucks and freight traffic should use northbound I-405 to eastbound I-90. Freight traffic should not use Issaquah-Hobart Road or Issaquah city streets, as these streets are not suitable for freight traffic.
  • Passenger vehicles: Other vehicles may use northbound Issaquah-Hobart Road to northbound Front Street to eastbound I-90.

Westbound SR 18 repairs
After repairs finish on eastbound SR 18, crews will switch and close westbound SR 18 for up to eight nights of pavement repairs. That weather-dependent work is scheduled between 11 p.m. and 5 a.m. nightly Mondays through Thursdays.

People heading westbound during the nightly closures should follow one of two detours during the closures:

  • Freight: All semi-trucks and freight traffic should use westbound I-90 to southbound I-405. Freight traffic should not use Issaquah city streets or Issaquah-Hobart Road, as these streets are not suitable for freight traffic.
  • Passenger vehicles: Other vehicles may use westbound I-90, to southbound Front Street to southbound Issaquah-Hobart Road.

The SR 18 work is part of a regional pavement repair project working to create a smoother ride and help extend the lifetime of several highways.
