Fish passage modifications on SR 546 near Northwood Road in Lynden begin July 15

During construction, travelers should expect a 5-day full closure of SR 546

LYNDEN – Travelers should expect to see construction activities on State Route 546, near Northwood Road in Lynden, starting at 8 a.m. on Monday, July 15. The work is due to modifications to the Kamm Ditch fish passage project.

Travelers will see single-lane closures through the duration of the project followed by a five-day full road closure of SR 546 from 5 p.m. Sunday, July 21, until 5 a.m. Friday, July 26. After the full closure, single-lane closures will continue through the end of July. Construction is expected to wrap up before the Northwest Washington Fair.

This project will make modifications to the wing walls of the fish passage structure that runs under SR 546. Fish passage work removes barriers and improves the ability of fish to move through waterways. This project gained an estimated 3,094-feet of habit for native species of fish, like trout and salmon, to more easily navigate the creek.

Construction, maintenance and special events

Road work ahead

We often have special events and roadwork taking place in the Northend, including construction projects, maintenance and repairs. We always try to minimize any effects to travel, but sometimes it is necessary to close a lane to do the work or create a safe work zone for our crews.

While we aren't doing a lot of roadwork this week, our crews will still be out monitoring and keeping the roads safe. If you spot them, slow down and give them space to work! A huge thanks to our crews for all their hard work through the holidays.
