Two-day closure of the pedestrian walkway coming June 12 and 13

Work is entering the final stages on the new pedestrian walkway at Bainbridge Island. One of the last pieces is replacing the mechanical components of the walkway's moveable section that raises and lowers to meet up with the ferry. We will close the passenger walkway on Wednesday and Thursday, June 12 and 13 to do this work. All passengers must load and unload the ferry via the car deck. The pedestrian route leading from the terminal building alongside the holding lanes to the ferry will be clearly marked.

The new passenger walkway opened to passengers in February. If you've passed through it lately, you've likely enjoyed the gorgeous views through the window-lined passageway -- and the spring breeze through the operable windows. Crews often work between sailings to complete their work. They're also adding seats, heaters, monitors, and other features. Tribal artists Andy Wilbur-Peterson and Ruth Peterson are carving two red cedar welcome poles that will be installed in the walkway.

Thanks to our passengers for their patience throughout construction. You can look back on all that in the photos here. We hope you enjoy the new and much improved walkway.

New ferry lane to Bainbridge terminal coming June 11

map of new intersection into Bainbridge ferry terminal

Drivers heading to the ferry terminal from Bainbridge soon have their own lane on State Route 305 into the terminal. On June 11, Washington State Department of Transportation crews will create a dedicated right lane from north of Winslow Way. Along with new pavement markings and signs, changes will include new traffic signal displays and turn restrictions at the Winslow Way and Harborview Drive intersections.

Other changes:

  • Travel in the right lane on southbound SR 305 approaching Winslow will be restricted to vehicle ferry traffic.
  • Turns from southbound SR 305 on to Winslow Way and Harborview Drive will be restricted to the left lane.
  • Right Turn on red will be prohibited from SR 305 at both Winslow Way and Harborview Drive.
  • Right turns will be prohibited from Winslow Way to the dedicated ferry lane on southbound SR 305.
  • No changes for transit services and pedestrians or drivers accessing self-parking areas near the terminal.
