Reminder: SR 520 and SR 520 Trail closed across Lake Washington this weekend

Crews will close SR 520 and the SR 520 Trail in both directions between I-5 in Seattle and 92nd Avenue Northeast in Clyde Hill starting at 11 p.m. tonight until 5 a.m. Monday, April 8.

During the roadway closure, crews will pave sections of the roadway and test lighting under the Montlake lid. During the trail closure, crews will complete a utility crossing under the trail and install a new bracket for a nearby sign bridge.

On-land drilling for geotechnical soil sampling continues

In preparation for the Portage Bay Bridge and Roanoke Lid Project, crews are drilling approximately 22 on-land test holes – also referred to as “geotechnical test borings” – to collect soil samples around the project area (see map of drilling locations below). Work began last week and will continue through the summer. Crews are also currently collecting in-water samples from 10 test holes in Portage Bay. In-water sampling began in March and will continue through April.

This type of site investigation involves evaluating the soil and groundwater conditions within a given depth and location. These soil samples will further inform the project design and help determine the types of tools and construction methods that may be needed.
