Crews are installing the roofing and windows on the new pedestrian walkway at Bainbridge Island. Infrared heaters inside will keep passesngers warm when the new walkway opens in January.
Upcoming two-day closure planned for pedestrian walkway at Bainbridge Island
All walk-on and roll-on passengers will load and unload the ferry via the car deck for two days this month when crews close the pedestrian walkway to complete work on the hoist system that raises and lowers the moveable portion of it.
Ridership data shows the fewest number of people using the overhead walkway on Bainbridge Island on Tuesdays and Wednesdays, so we’re aiming for a Jan. 9-10 or Jan. 16-17 for the closure. As soon as we confirm the dates, we will alert customers through a rider alert. (Sign up for these alerts.) During this closure, plan for possible boarding and offloading delays and be aware that the temporary route is not covered.
An look inside the new overhead walkway as crews install windows that will offer great views out over the water as passengers make their way to and from the ferry.
The new, wider overhead walkway will feature seating and infrared heaters for passenger comfort while awaiting the ferry. It is set to open by the end of this month.
