In this update:
Tomorrow night, crews will close SR 520 in both directions (and all associated on- and off-ramps) between I-5 in Seattle and 92nd Avenue Northeast in Clyde Hill. The highway, including all associated on- and off-ramps, closes at 11:59 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 16 and reopens at 5 a.m. Friday, Nov. 17. The six-hour closure is needed to test a newly installed waterline across SR 520.
Crews will close the northbound lanes of Montlake Boulevard this weekend between East Hamlin Street and East Louisa Street. The lanes will close from 10 p.m. Friday, Nov. 17 to 5 a.m. Monday, Nov. 20.
This closure includes both the westbound and eastbound SR 520 off-ramps to Montlake Boulevard. Drivers heading eastbound from I-5 will need to pay the SR 520 bridge toll. The SR 520 Trail will remain open.
From 10 p.m. until 5 a.m. nightly on Nov. 15 and 16, the Mercer Street on-ramps to both northbound and southbound I-5 will close. Crews will use these closures for underground utility work.
All drivers will need to use alternate routes to access I-5 from the South Lake Union neighborhood. Signed detours will be in place.
On Sept. 13, 2023, WSDOT opened bids from the two teams that submitted proposals for the Portage Bay Bridge and Roanoke Lid Project. We announced Skanska’s proposal as having the Apparent Best Value (ABV). Their $1.375B price proposal exceeds the engineer’s estimate by about 70%.
With the support of the Governor's office and transportation legislative leadership, we have begun negotiations with Skanska to extend their proposal validity through the end of the 2024 legislative session on March 7 (it was previously set to expire on Nov. 20, 2023). We will continue to keep you updated once we have finalized a path forward.
