Westbound SR 520 off-ramp to East Roanoke Street closed for 18 days starting May 30

Big milestone for the SR 520/I-5 Connection Project complete!

Last weekend we reached a major milestone for the SR 520/I-5 Connection Project. Our contractor, Walsh Group, set and assembled 15 steel bridge girders over northbound I-5 and the I-5 express lanes for the new flyover ramp. See the before and after photos below.

A big thank you to Walsh and to you, the public, for the great teamwork required to accomplish this in just 48 hours. Normally, setting girders like these could take as many as three weekend closures to complete.

During the May 19-21 weekend closure, crews used two cranes to lift and assemble the girders in mid-air before placing them on the concrete piers and crossbeams. These girders will serve as the support structure for the new flyover ramp.

Extended closure at the Roanoke off-ramp

The next phase of the SR 520/I-5 Connection Project involves an 18-day closure of the westbound SR 520 off-ramp to East Roanoke Street.

The closure begins at 9 p.m. on Tuesday, May 30, and goes around the clock until 9 p.m. on Saturday, June 17. The westbound ramp to northbound I-5 will remain open.

This closure will allow crews to continue work on retaining walls in preparation for shifting traffic at the Roanoke Street off-ramp to the north into its final configuration. Shifting traffic north will create the space needed to complete construction of the new flyover ramp.
