Lake Washington Boulevard and I-5 closures; engagement opportunities tomorrow and next week

There is a horizontal green band that reads Rest of the West News. Above it is the letters W S D O T. An oval on the right reads state route 520.

In this update:

Reminder: Lake Washington Boulevard remains closed through May 19

Lake Washington Boulevard in Montlake remains closed in both directions between Montlake Boulevard and East Foster Island Road until 10 p.m. Friday, May 19. During this closure, we are replacing the roadway with concrete paving and adding planting areas and a center median. The westbound SR 520 off-ramp to Lake Washington Boulevard is also closed these days.

Map shows Lake Washington Boulevard closure in red rom Montlake Blvd E to E foster Island Rd.

We appreciate your patience as crews work to improve this key Montlake street. A lot more work lies ahead this summer. Read our recent blog to learn more about all the construction, roadway closures and completed milestones you'll see along SR 520 in coming months.

Plan ahead: Weekend closure coming for big milestone on the I-5 connection project

Over the weekend of May 19-21, the I-5 express lanes and northbound Interstate 5 near the State Route 520 interchange will close so crews can place steel bridge girders for a new flyover ramp over the freeway.

The closures extend from 10 p.m. Friday, May 19 to 10 a.m. Sunday, May 21. Signed detours with uniformed police officers will guide traffic. The work will require drivers on northbound I-5 to use SR 520 and Montlake Boulevard to turn around and rejoin northbound I-5 just past the work zone.

Please note: People who continue past the Montlake Boulevard exit on eastbound SR 520 will need to pay the SR 520 bridge toll. Plan ahead and prepare for delays. This work is part of the SR 520/I-5 Express Lanes Connection Project.
