Neighbors near the Montlake Project may experience increased vibration starting this week

This week, crews on the Montlake Project began removing the temporary work trestles along both sides of the SR 520 eastbound bridge construction area. We built the trestles in 2020 to accommodate the large, blue gantry cranes onsite. The trestles were constructed with large, vertical steel tubes (piles) that we vibrated into the lakebed. To remove the piles, we’ll use the same vibrating equipment to loosen them up before pulling them out. Nearby neighbors may feel vibration as crews complete this work.

Built to modern seismic standards, the bridge spans more than a mile from the shore of Union Bay to the SR 520 floating bridge on Lake Washington. Once complete, the eastbound bridge and its parallel westbound bridge, on the left, will each have two general-purpose lanes and a bus/carpool lane.
