In this update:
We are closing the temporary path under SR 520 in Montlake to make room for construction of a bicycle and pedestrian bridge over the highway. The path will close permanently at 7 a.m. Monday, June 6. When that happens, people biking, walking or rolling should use Montlake Boulevard to cross the highway.
Use Montlake Boulevard to cross the highway when the temporary trail closes.
Crews installed a new trail counter earlier this month along the SR 520 Trail in time for May’s Bike Everywhere Month. The new counter, located just east of the Shelby/Hamlin neighborhood, is linked to a statewide Bicycle and Pedestrian Count Portal. About 325,000 people annually use the SR 520 Trail – about 85% of them on bicycles. Get out on the trail to be counted!
The new trail counter tallies bicyclists and pedestrians who use the trail.
Crews will pour concrete next week for the construction of a new eastbound SR 520 bridge over Union Bay. This work requires closing all lanes of eastbound SR 520 between I-5 in Seattle and the Eastside from 11 p.m. Thursday, June 2 until 5 a.m. Friday, June 3. Drivers that night will need to use I-90 or travel around Lake Washington to reach the Eastside from Seattle.
