In this update:
The labor dispute between King County concrete suppliers and delivery drivers represented by Teamsters Local 174 has meant limited or no access to concrete deliveries since early December for some WSDOT projects in the county, including SR 520 construction projects.
The strike’s effects include layoffs of contractor employees and the potential for increased taxpayer costs. WSDOT is working closely with King County, the city of Seattle, the Port of Seattle, Sound Transit, and the Washington State Convention Center to urge for a negotiated resolution of the dispute.
For SR 520 projects, the ongoing strike has caused the cancellation of work on multiple planned weekend ramp and highway closures, and a likely delay to Montlake lid construction. We will continue to monitor the situation and update our Construction Corner once normal construction activities resume, and keep you updated via our email updates and social media.
WSDOT invites you to attend our I-405/SR 167 and SR 520 Contractor Informational Forum on Thursday, Feb. 24 to learn about upcoming projects. The governor’s recently proposed supplemental transportation budget and state lawmakers’ Move Ahead Washington transportation plan include a combined total of about $1.5 billion in funding needed for projects on the I-405/SR 167 and SR 520 corridors.
