Westbound SR 520 closed overnight Thursday, Jan. 13 for removal work

Crews will work overnight this Thursday, Jan. 13 to remove and haul away the remaining pieces of the old Montlake Boulevard overpass. This work will be noisy as crews break and remove concrete. The work will start at 10 p.m. Thursday and continue until 5 a.m. Friday, with the westbound lanes of SR 520 across Lake Washington closed during those hours. Nearby neighbors can expect to hear noise from activities such as overpass demolition, paving and truck traffic. We’ve been granted a temporary noise variance from the city of Seattle for this work.

Last call – sign up for the Portage Bay Bridge and Roanoke Lid info session on our upcoming nighttime noise variance application!

We invite you to join us tomorrow evening for a public information session on the Portage Bay Bridge and Roanoke Lid Project. In preparation for project construction, set to begin as early as 2024, WSDOT will apply for a Major Public Project Construction Noise Variance (MPPCNV) from the city of Seattle.

This variance will establish noise limits for nighttime construction activities. WSDOT’s application will include plans to minimize effects to the community. Working at nighttime prioritizes the safety of the public and our crews, shortens the construction duration and reduces costs to taxpayers. We’d like to hear your input and answer your questions at our upcoming online meeting.
