Respiratory Season 2026-27: What You Need to Know

As we prepare for the 2026-27 respiratory season, the Childhood Vaccine Program (CVP) would like to share important updates to help providers prepare for vaccine ordering, product availability, and program expectations.

Communication and Response Times

The Childhood Vaccine Program team at the Department of Health is currently operating with reduced staffing and appreciates your patience as we work through your questions and requests. Please allow us 72 hours to respond to non-urgent inquiries. We appreciate your patience, cooperation, and understanding as our team works to support providers as efficiently as possible.

We also want to remind providers that respectful communication is expected in all interactions with Department of Health (DOH) staff. Threatening or inappropriate language directed toward DOH staff is not acceptable and will not be tolerated.

Providers can help reduce delays be taking a few simple steps:

  • Read REDCap and IIS notifications in their entirety. Many questions are answered within the notification itself, and reviewing the full message may prevent the need to send additional emails and wait for a response.
  • Use a single email thread whenever possible. Sending multiple emails about the same issue may delay response times.
  • Stay informed by regularly reading Vaccine Blurbs. Important updates, timelines, and program guidance are communicated through the Blurbs throughout the respiratory season.

Respiratory Season Distribution Updates

Last respiratory season presented several challenges, and we appreciated your flexibility and partnership throughout the season. For the 2026-27 season, distribution of respiratory season products is expected to proceed as normal. Respiratory vaccines and products will continue to be available through the Childhood Vaccine Program and Adult Vaccine Program, with some process improvements being implemented.

You should continue to follow the 2026 American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) Recommended Child and Adolescent Vaccine Schedule for all children. This schedule is endorsed by the West Coast Health Alliance and DOH and reflects the current evidence-based standard of care for pediatric immunization. CVP providers must maintain an inventory of the vaccines recommended for the patient population served.  Providers that do not serve infant populations do not need to have RSV products in their inventory.

Submit Respiratory Vaccine Choice Form

New this year, all providers must submit a Vaccine Choice form to select RSV and/or COVID-19 vaccine order sets for the upcoming season. These forms were due July 3, 2026. If you have not submitted yours, please send the completed form by email to WAChildhoodVaccines@doh.wa.gov as soon as possible.

What We Know

Ordering timelines are dependent on several factors, including product availability, manufacturer shipments, and federal approval processes.

RSV Products

  • Ordering is expected to open mid-August

Influenza Vaccine

  • Ordering timeline is dependent on receipt of doses from manufacturers
  • Based on recent seasons, ordering is expected to open between mid-August and Labor Day

COVID-19 Vaccine

  • Ordering timeline is dependent on FDA approval and receipt of doses from manufacturers
  • Based on previous seasons, ordering is expected to open in late September to early October

Updates will be shared through the Vaccine Blurbs as information becomes available.

Thank you for your continued partnership and commitment to protecting Washington communities.

As a reminder, please review your billing system to ensure the 2026-27 Grid has been implemented and all necessary updates have been completed. Please also verify that your EMR/EHR is applying the updated dosage-based vaccine assessment amounts correctly when submitting DBAs to commercial insurers.

For additional information regarding the assessment Grid, watch WVA's short informational  video. If you have questions, please contact the WVA Compliance Team at compliance@wavaccine.org.
