Updates to WAIIS User Accounts
All users who have not logged into the WAIIS within the last 90 days will have their user accounts inactivated in the coming week.
If you have not logged into the WAIIS in the last few months, please do so as soon as possible to avoid inactivation. To reactivate your WAIIS user account, please contact your WAIIS system administrator or WAIISHelpDesk@doh.wa.gov (1-800-325-5599).
The WAIIS implemented a Single Sign-On (SSO) login process on August 23, 2025. All IIS users need to follow the linking process outlined in the Single Sign-on (SSO) for WAIIS Users guide (PDF) to log into the IIS. Only one SecureAccess Washington (SAW) account can be linked to one WAIIS user account. Each WAIIS user account will need its own individual SAW account. If you have a business need that requires more than one WAIIS account, multiple SAW and WAIIS accounts may be created using the same email address. To have your SAW account unlinked from an inactive WAIIS account so you can link it to a new WAIIS account, reach out to WAIISHelpDesk@doh.wa.gov (1-800-325-5599).

SecureAccess WA (SAW) News
Applications across all WA agencies will be transitioned to WA.gov over time, eventually replacing SecureAccess Washington (SAW). Click here for more information. It’s likely that WAIIS users will have some applications that use SAW and some using WA.gov to login. Additional information about the WAIIS transition to WA.gov will be shared when available.

ISA Renewals
The DOH provider enrollment team is working to renew the Information Sharing Agreements (ISAs) for organizations participating in the WAIIS. Please check your records to ensure your ISAs are up to date as these agreements expire every 3 years. You may lose connectivity to the IIS if no response is received during our review and cleanup of IIS data.
If you are not up to date, click here to renew your agreement or contact pchoiisa@doh.wa.gov for any additional questions.

Data Security
As part of our ongoing commitment to data security we’re sharing a few reminders today.
Providers, health plans, and other covered entities may disclose protected health information to the IIS without patient authorization since the disclosure is allowed as a public health activity related to controlling or preventing disease. Although the HIPAA privacy rule doesn't directly apply to the IIS, the Department of Health intends to comply with the spirit of the rule. In accordance with RCW 70.02, Washington's Health Care Information Access and Disclosure Act, individually identified data will only be disclosed for the purpose of facilitating healthcare or conducting public health activities to prevent or control disease.
As outlined in each organization’s signed WAIIS Information Sharing Agreement (ISA) and each user’s individually signed Confidentiality Agreement, anyone authorized to access the WAIIS, has a responsibility to ensure all personal healthcare records in the system are protected and remain confidential. To this end,
- IIS user account login IDs and passwords should never be shared. Each user is required to maintain an individual user account and to not share their account information with anyone else.
- Access and use of immunization data should be limited to the fewest number of people, the smallest amount of data, and for the least amount of time necessary to complete required job duties.
- IIS user accounts should be reviewed regularly to ensure appropriate access permissions.
- IIS user accounts should be inactivated immediately when a user leaves an organization or if job duties no longer require access to immunization records.
Additional information about WAIIS access is available on the Washington State Immunization Information System website. If you have questions about system access, the ISA, or confidentiality agreements, please contact us at iisdataquality@doh.wa.gov. For questions about HL7 data exchange please contact us at iisdataexchange@doh.wa.gov.
