No Changes to Washington State Childhood Immunization Schedule

There are no changes to the childhood immunization schedule in Washington state. Insurance coverage and school immunization requirements also remain unchanged. The science has not changed, and Washington’s recommendations remain grounded in the best available evidence.

The 2026 AAP schedule was developed following a thorough review of medical evidence and continues to reflect decades of research demonstrating that vaccines are safe, effective, and lifesaving. CVP providers are expected to use this schedule to guide clinical practice and conversations with families.

All immunizations recommended by the AAP remain available at no cost to children younger than 19 years of age through Washington’s universal Childhood Vaccine Program at participating provider sites. Families should not experience any changes in vaccine access or coverage due to recent federal policy developments.

SecureAccess WA (SAW) News

Applications across all WA agencies will be transitioned to WA.gov over time, eventually replacing SecureAccess Washington (SAW). Click here for more information. It’s likely that WAIIS users will have some applications that use SAW and some using WA.gov to login. Additional information about the WAIIS transition to WA.gov will be shared when available.

ISA Renewals

The DOH provider enrollment team is working to renew the Information Sharing Agreements (ISAs) for organizations participating in the WAIIS. Please check your records to ensure your ISAs are up to date as these agreements expire every 3 years. You may lose connectivity to the IIS if no response is received during our review and cleanup of IIS data.

Health Information Exchange (HIE)

Per DOH policy, all new HL7 interfaces, including EHR vendor changes, for electronic data exchange with the IIS are expected to route through the state HIE. Consolidating transport methods for submitting and receiving healthcare data promotes efficiency and improves interoperability. To reduce our IT footprint and operational costs, DOH policy seeks to ensure we reuse systems and technology wherever possible across our agency. The HIE policy specifically calls out HCP OneHealthPort, the statewide HIE, as a strategic asset that must be fully leveraged to support public health as a shared solution for data exchange with clinical partners.

To participate in the HCP OneHealthPort HIE, organizations must sign a participation agreement and pay an annual subscription fee. OneHealthPort charges a flat annual fee based on the organization’s revenue. HIE fees provide unlimited messaging for required and voluntary public health data exchange. It also allows connection to the Medicaid Clinical Data Repository. Clinical partners may also trade data with each other for care coordination. Many health systems already have an agreement with OneHealthPort in place and are, therefore, already paying the annual fee. There are no set-up or per transaction fees. In addition to all new connections routing through the HIE, we’re working to transition about seventy-five legacy IIS connections to the HIE. We’ll start reaching out to healthcare organizations with these legacy connections to begin the transition process soon.
