Temporary Temperature Monitor Change with Refrigerated Vaccine Shipments

Starting February 23, McKesson will temporarily transition from electronic TagAlert temperature monitors to chemical temperature monitors in refrigerated vaccine shipments due to a shortage of TagAlerts. The use of electronic TagAlert monitors in refrigerated vaccine shipments is expected to resume by mid- to late April.

During this transition, all refrigerated vaccine shipments will include an instructional flyer for your reference. Additionally, McKesson will exclusively use EcoFlex coolers during this period. These coolers feature vacuum insulated panels, which provide enhanced temperature stability and a longer shipment qualification time.

Thank you for your understanding and cooperation as we navigate this temporary change.

Moderna COVID-19 Vaccine (6 Months–11 Years) Allocation Update

We are currently experiencing challenges in securing adequate allocations of the Moderna COVID-19 vaccine (6 months–11 years) from the CDC. As a result, providers may experience delays in order approval and/or shipment of this product. We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this may cause and appreciate your patience as we work to manage available supply.

If you recently placed an order for the Moderna COVID-19 vaccine (6 months–11 years) and the order is currently on hold due to allocation limitations, please do not submit a duplicate order. Your original request will be processed as soon as supply becomes available.

Please note that currently available Moderna COVID-19 vaccine doses for ages 6 months–11 years have expiration dates of approximately May 15 and June 1, which is roughly 90 days from expiration. We encourage providers to review inventory carefully and plan administration accordingly to minimize vaccine waste.

If you have doses that will not be administered prior to expiration, please post those doses in the IIS Vaccine Advertisement module to allow other providers the opportunity to utilize them. Likewise, providers in need of this vaccine are encouraged to review posted vaccine advertisements in the IIS before placing a new order.

When placing a COVID-19 vaccine order that includes the Moderna product for ages 6 months–11 years, please submit those doses on a separate order from other COVID-19 vaccine products. This will allow us to process orders for vaccines that are currently available without delay.

Thank you for your continued partnership and commitment to protecting children in our communities through vaccination.

RSV Product Update

RSV vaccine administration is typically October 1 through March 31. You should stop administering RSV products by March 31, 2026.

If you have doses that will not be used before March 31, please place an advertisement in the IIS.

If you are in need of RSV vaccine, please check the Vaccine Advertisements in the IIS or email WAChildhoodVaccines@doh.wa.gov and we will help locate product. We can also help coordinate and move product between regions.

Remaining inventory of nirsevimab is viable until its expiration date. Product should continue to be safely stored refrigerated between 36°F to 46°F (2°C to 8°C) and can be used when administration resumes next season - do not discard or attempt to return unexpired RSV products. Expired RSV products should be returned using the Online Returns Process like all other expired vaccine products.

Please don't hesitate to contact us at WAChildhoodVaccines@doh.wa.gov for any questions or for assistance managing your nirsevimab inventory.

Shifts in policy from previously well-trusted sources can raise confusion, doubt, and questions about what practice changes are appropriate—or necessary. Join leaders from Washington State for a timely conversation on how they are navigating this evolving landscape. Panelists will discuss how their organizations interpret new information, determine when and how to adjust clinical or operational practices, and communicate updates clearly and confidently to patients, clients, and provider networks.

Together, we will explore how to maintain trust amid uncertainty, ensure continued and equitable access to vaccines, and support communities with accurate, evidence-based information so individuals and families can make informed decisions about their care.

Measles Update

As of February 20, 2026, Washington state has 26 confirmed measles cases. As measles continues to surge nationally and in our state, DOH urges MMR vaccination and encourages providers to review the interim pediatric measles outbreak vaccination recommendations. Please remain alert for potential measles cases or measles-like symptoms, especially among people who visited public exposure locations listed on the Washington State Measles Public Exposure Location Tracker or recently travelled.

If measles is suspected, immediately contact DOH’s Communicable Disease Epi Vaccine Preventable Disease team or call 206-418-5500 any time, 24/7, to request prompt diagnostic testing at Washington’s Public Health Lab.
